16-year-old boy trapped on a cliff after using Claude to plan a hiking route; rescued by helicopter, he says he will no longer use AI for route planning

A 16-year-old used Anthropic's Claude to plan a Vancouver Crown Mountain summit route, and got trapped on a steep cliff requiring climbing gear"Widowmaker Arete"On a rock platform about five feet wide, police notified the North Shore Rescue team to hoist him off by helicopter. Rescue leader Paul Markey said Claude does not truly understand terrain, and AI cannot replace experience and common sense; the teenager said he takes responsibility, will still climb in the future but will no longer use AI to plan routes.
