MIT researchers have built a multimodal AI model that enables large models to 'understand' the three-dimensional structure of crystals.

In a paper published in Nature Communications, this system outperformed text-only models when screening solid-state lithium-ion battery electrolyte materials. Its candidate selections included substances that had already been independently identified as promising.
