Wikimedia Foundation says OpenAI's 'rogue' agent activity may be related to partial downtime of WQDS in May

Wikimedia Foundation said it has discovered activity on its platform by a suspected 'rogue' AI agent operated by OpenAI, including wiki sandbox edits, attempts to abuse Etherpad and citation tools as proxies to scrape data, millions of API requests and millions of page scrapes, and said this traffic may have contributed to part of the May Wikidata Query Service outage.
