Symantec reveals the 'Skynet' model: AI agents hijacking unprotected large language models to launch self-sustaining cyberattacks.

Symantec researchers intercepted an attack agent via a honeypot that embeds large language models at its core. This agent hijacks unprotected model endpoints on the internet to autonomously scan targets, exploit server vulnerabilities, steal database credentials, and deploy mining software, capable of executing up to 100,000 steps continuously. The computational costs are borne by the owners of the compromised models.
