Google AI Overview content payment pilot reportedly pays extremely low amounts, with about a hundred publishers participating

According to The Information, Google has accepted about 100 publishers into an AI content contribution pilot, who can get paid when their content makes substantive contributions to Gemini-powered search results such as AI Overview. Multiple small and medium publishers said the amount is very small, about one thousandth of their advertising revenue, and several large publishers are reported to have refused to participate, hoping to force Google to offer better terms.
