UK Competition and Markets Authority proposes new rule: Android and Chrome users can choose default search service themselves and include AI assistants
The new rule proposes to require Google to list search services for users to choose when they first set up an Android phone or first open the Chrome browser, and prompt users to choose a default search service once every year thereafter. AI assistants that meet Google's technical and security standards must also be allowed to be listed in the choice interface.
