EU pressures Google: needs to open Android functions to AI rivals like OpenAI and share search data
EU regulators require Google, to comply with the Digital Markets Act, to open 11 core functions of the Android system to AI competitors like OpenAI and search engines, and share data. The new rule aims to break Google's advantage in AI and search, and it is expected that from July 2027 users will be able to use AI assistants from other companies.
