What is AI code review? Turning comments into reproducible findings
Understand review suggestions, real defects, context, line references, and reproduction through a null-handling change, including why no comments do not prove correctness.
Understand the concept
AI code review analyzes changes and context for potential defects or improvements. It can produce false positives and misses and does not replace tests or required human review. Useful findings identify locations, triggers, and effects with code-path or runtime evidence. No comments do not prove correctness, and suggested patches need validation.
Findings should identify concrete triggering conditions
Treating an empty list as missing is a defect when callers distinguish them. Follow the call path and identify the input and wrong result rather than a vague warning. Separate style preferences from regressions.
GitHub describes line-level feedback and acknowledges possible code misunderstandings. Context and execution capabilities differ by product. This page reviews mechanisms without reviewing a real repository.
Context and dependencies determine whether a finding holds
A single changed line can hide upstream validation or downstream dependence. Read definitions, callers, and conventions. Line references must match the current revision; old-patch findings need confirmation before being called unresolved.
Security findings need a data path to the dangerous operation rather than name-based judgments. State unresolved conditions when reproduction is unavailable. Detailed prose and comment counts do not establish evidence or coverage.
After fixes, check the original issue and related regressions
Reproduce the triggering input, apply a minimal fix, and check relevant tests and callers. A second model reading that declares success is insufficient. Broader suggested patches need review of added effects.
No patch was submitted or real defect claimed here. Reports should distinguish confirmed bugs from leads and record untested scope. AI review helps locate actionable risks; merges still follow project checks and authorization.
