What is Qoder? Distinguishing its standalone desktop app, IDE and CLI
Current Qoder product forms, Coding and General modes, Knowledge Center and terminal use, separating task software from models and avoiding an IDE-only description.
Meet this tool
Qoder is a software product family for agentic work. The standalone desktop Qoder originated from Quest in Qoder IDE; both now coexist rather than being one renamed interface. Desktop tasks use workspaces or folders, while the CLI serves terminal users. Qoder coordinates models and tools, not a single foundation model or another name for Qwen.
Coding and General organize tasks differently
Coding organizes engineering tasks by workspace with execution and branch controls; General organizes tasks by folder. Users supply goals and context, then the agent reads, plans and uses tools. Mode selection primarily establishes working context; it does not guarantee every action is available.
Application changes need the intended workspace and behavior; material organization needs the appropriate folder. Switching modes neither copies repositories nor grants extra permissions, and dependencies remain an environment requirement.
Standalone Qoder and Qoder IDE retain separate state
Standalone Qoder and Qoder IDE store conversation history and memory separately. Official guidance offers importing IDE material rather than implying live sharing from one account. Identify projects and history to preserve before migration.
Qoder CLI reads code, uses tools and runs commands for terminal workflows. It is another product interface, not every desktop button copied into a terminal. Match documentation to the version instead of explaining the new desktop app with old IDE tutorials.
Knowledge Center provides reusable project context
Knowledge Center contains Knowledge Bases and Repo Wikis for reusable project context. These differ from source files and may be stale. Resolve conflicts against relevant versions rather than let historical descriptions override current code.
Reusable material reduces repeated architecture and business explanations but still needs task relevance. Connecting a knowledge source does not establish every passage was used. Inspect actual retrieved material when evidence is missing rather than merely confirm a file exists in Knowledge Center.
Model selection and execution permissions are separate controls
Users select models and access modes, while tools follow permission rules. Models process information; clients and environments execute actions. Stronger models do not grant resource access or create absent files. Confirm service eligibility for the actual account.
Choose between independent task coordination and direct code editing before comparing context and extensions. Review changes and preserve existing user edits. This page explains product organization without success-rate, popularity or pricing claims.
