Video understanding misses brief events: how do you test sampling and input coverage?
For missed brief events, establish actual processed ranges and sampling before judging recognition. Sparse frames from a long video may never include the event.

For missed brief events, establish actual processed ranges and sampling before judging recognition. Sparse frames from a long video may never include the event. Locate known event times and compare shorter inputs or supported sampling while preserving conditions. Stronger prompt wording alone does not repair absent visual evidence.
Locate the event and its minimum duration first
This applies to briefly appearing objects, quick button changes and actions omitted from summaries. Manually confirm position and duration and preserve neighboring normal footage. Define whether the task requires all-event detection or a summary: reasonable summarization omission differs from a detection miss and needs a different acceptance standard.
Inspect processed intervals, sampling and usable frames
Check source version, processed range and sampling and confirm key frames contain the event. Length limits can truncate inputs and low detail can hide small changes. Custom sampling support may depend on processing mode; verify the actual API rather than assume an unsupported supplied parameter took effect.
Adjust supported sampling around the missed segment
Reduce input to the event-containing segment, use supported sampling or frame extraction and preserve original time mappings. For small state changes, supply a relevant crop or clearer input instead of blindly enlarging the entire video. Change one condition at a time, record results and restore global timestamps for whole-video reports.
Test the event and similar non-event footage together
Test confirmed events and visually similar non-events and record misses and false positives. Check time localization and whether denser sampling actually includes the key image. A model saying it saw something is insufficient without a matching description and location. Do not report recall gains or perfect detection before real evaluation.
This article uploaded no video or ran event-detection tests. Additional sampling costs more processing and does not guarantee comprehension. Specialized high-reliability uses need their own validation. Disclose missing audio in frame-only analysis and do not infer full action sequences or intentions from still images.
