Making AI video: shot choices, consistency, and final-file acceptance
Choose generated video or template animation from the delivery requirements, inspect references and motion by shot, and verify the real exported file. This guide also explains what to check when preview model endpoints are retired.
Define each shot, then verify the complete export
Check both scene behavior and the final video file. Define the subject and motion for each shot before choosing text, reference images, or a template. Play the complete clip instead of accepting its first-frame preview. This guide provides a workflow, not a cross-service video benchmark or a HotAI endorsement of vendor demonstrations.
Choose generation or templates from the required motion
Consider generation for novel motion and scenes. Templates can offer more direct control over fixed layouts and exact text. Both need final-output checks, but their editing methods differ. Complete one representative shot before choosing the route for the whole piece.
Text-to-video allows more composition freedom; image-to-video introduces constraints from an existing frame. Describe the motion even with a reference image instead of assuming the model knows the intended ending. Retain original references for important brand or product details.
Compare adjacent shots for identity and product changes
Keep opening and ending keyframes and compare the subject’s appearance. Check packaging text separately rather than relying on similar colors. Record the timestamp of a change within a shot so comparisons do not depend on memory.
Preserve usable footage before trying continuation or regenerating a section. More attempts do not automatically resolve consistency, and changing every input hides the cause. Change one condition and compare the same keyframe location, retaining failed versions for diagnosis.
Verify dialogue, captions, and action on one timeline
Generated audio can still misread dialogue. Replay names and numbers and compare speech timing with lip movement. Caption boundaries alone may cut the start or end of spoken words; listen at the edit points.
For tutorials, inspect small interface text at the final display size. When converting landscape to portrait, check cropping and areas covered by platform controls. Recheck actual playback size instead of relying only on a magnified editor preview.
Check the interface and deprecation date when choosing a model
Check a model family separately from its API endpoint. Google’s current video guide lists older Veo 3.1 preview models shutting down on October 22, 2026. That does not mean every Veo interface is being retired. Do not start a new integration with an expiring preview ID.
On migration, recheck support for references or first and last frames and verify with the previous shot samples. A documented feature supports a capability description, while account access and generation results still require separate checks. Verify playback and dimensions in the exported file
Play the entire export in the target player. The extension alone does not establish compatibility; containers and codecs matter. If browser playback fails, inspect the file properties before troubleshooting format support rather than repeatedly downloading the same unusable file.
Compare duration and coverage of key shots. Missing images or black frames in a batch render may occur only briefly and remain invisible in a first-frame screenshot. Keep source assets and export settings, then replay the same location after encoding changes.
